How the Calculator Works
Enter your departure and return dates to instantly see your total calendar days, the number of business days (PTO) you'll need to use, how many weekend days fall within your trip, and any US federal holidays that land in your travel window — those are free days that don't cost any PTO.
The calculator accounts for all 11 US federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. A Friday-to-Monday long weekend that includes a federal holiday, for example, can give you 4–5 days away for just 2 PTO days.
The optimization tip at the bottom of your results will flag if you're leaving free days on the table — for instance, departing on Thursday instead of Monday to capture a weekend at the start of your trip, or including a holiday weekend to stretch your time off further.
